Jane Kitching

Painter

Jane Kitching (b1961 Assam,India) is an english contemporary painter living and working in North Yorkshire. Her paintings explore her response to personal experiences of grief, hope, togetherness and isolation, often through the symbolism of the table.

The layering of collage, oils and mixed media create deliberate ambiguity, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves within the work and discover meanings and possibilities.

Jane’s degree was in microbiology. She worked for several years as a microbiologist before she decided to pursue her dream of becoming an artist. Jane studied Textiles and Surface Pattern(Cleveland College of Art and Design), later setting up her own company Trinity Designs Ltd. An internationally successful career as a textile designer followed. Jane frequently exhibited in New York, Atlanta, Frankfurt and Brussels, often invited by companies as their guest artist.

Jane was forty eight when her husband died of cystic fibrosis, propelling her to leave her successful commercial art career of more than two decades for painting fine art full time. She is now finishing a fine art diploma with Martin Kinnear Studio.

She currently exhibits in several galleries and exhibitions and is widely collected.

Jane has recently had the honour of being selected as the Artist in Residence (2024/2025) for the prestigious St Mary’s College, Durham University as part of their 125 years of founding celebrations.
