About Jane
Jane's Story
Jane was born in Shillong, Assam, and is an English contemporary painter living and working in the North York Moors National Park.
Jane’s professional art career isn’t standard. She studied microbiology and worked in the field for several years before pursuing her passion for art. Textiles and surface pattern design fascinated her and she started her own company, Trinity Designs Ltd to develop textile designs that showed internationally in New York, Atlanta, Frankfurt, and Brussels.
Following the death of her husband in 2010, Jane pivoted from textiles to painting. In 2025, Jane completed her Fine Arts Diploma and was selected to be the Artist in Residence at St Mary’s College, Durham University.
Jane currently exhibits in galleries and exhibitions and her work is held in collections both in the UK and internationally.

Jane's Inspiration
Every painting begins with layers of abstract collage, oil paints, printing, and dry media. Jane lets the work evolve intuitively, embracing imperfections and unexpected moments as she decides what to leave in and what should remain hidden. She rarely knows where a painting will take her.
For Jane, working in layers emulates life itself. Every painting builds on layers of grief, memory, and experience to create something entirely unique.
Memory, place, and the connections between people are recurring themes in her work. Colour, particularly the hot colours of India, and the richness of pattern and decoration reflect her background and evoke joy in the viewer and the artist.
More than anything, Jane wants her work to invite the viewer in, to look closer, to discover something locked away in their own memories. In this way, a painting can become a living canvas that changes for everyone.
She is heavily inspired by artists including Joan Eardley, Pierre Bonnard, Eduard Vuillard, and Elizabeth Cummings, particularly by their use of colours, atmosphere, and the suggestion of something beyond the immediate image.
